Article 147 of the Constitution provides that the Deputy President:
• Is the principal assistant to the President;
• Deputises for the President in the execution of the President's functions;
• Performs functions conferred by the Constitution and other functions assigned by the President; and
• Acts as President when the President is absent or temporarily incapacitated, subject to Article 134 and the constitutional provisions governing the exercise of presidential authority.
The Deputy President may not hold another State or public office.
