PS Mbaika hosts high-level Eswatini delegation on devolution
The Principal Secretary State Department for Devolution, Office of the Deputy President, Teresiah Mbaika, on Wednesday hosted members of a high-level delegation from the Kingdom of Eswatini, who are on a study visit on the devolution system of Government.
The visiting delegation was led by the Minister of Tinkhundla & Development in the Kingdom of Eswatini Hon. Mduduzi Dlamini.
The Kingdom of Eswatini is undertaking radical reforms to its structure of governance, and devolution is one of the key areas of interest, hence the desire to learn from the Kenyan experience more than a decade of implementation
Welcoming the delegation, PS Mbaika said the two-tier Government system, which commenced upon promulgation of the Constitution of Kenya 2010, provides for structural inclusivity and involvement of the people in governance and development.
"Devolution in Kenya has facilitated significant segments of the population to access quality public services including community health, all-weather roads, among others, for the first time since independence. These achievements are a testament to the potential of devolution in transforming the lives of Kenyans," she said.
During the meeting held at her office at Teleposta Towers, PS Mbaika added that President William Ruto is a champion of Devolution as it provides a platform for implementation of the Bottom-up Economic Transformation Agenda development blue-print- up to the grassroots.
PS Mbaika also affirmed that Kenya will continue to collaborate and work closely with other African countries to foster sustainable partnership on issues affecting the continent.
Hon. Dlamini, praised Kenya's system of Government and decentralisation of powers to the devolved units.
He also delivered a message of condolence to Kenyans following devastating effects of the enhanced rains.
