DP Gachagua is focused on assisting President Ruto deliver

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua says he will not be drawn into political sideshows; stating that he is focused on assisting President William Ruto succeed in the economic transformation and development of the country.

This comes even as MPs led by Jubilee Party leader Sabina Chege backed his call for devoted leadership and appealed to their colleagues in Parliament to dedicate their time in addressing the challenges facing the nation like youth unemployment.

Mr Gachagua on Friday said he is also focused on driving reforms in the agricultural sector, eradication of illicit brews and drugs abuse and supporting the President as his principal assistant.

These socio-economic programs, he said, will change the livelihoods of all Kenyans and shape the Ruto administration development legacy.

"I am not for politics. My focus is on national development, agricultural reforms, the fight against illicit brews, supporting Church and assisting the President to succeed. Those willing to do politics can continue. But they should also listen to to the people and respect them. People are supreme," he said in Gatanga, Murang'a county during the Golden Jubilee celebrations of ACK Thika Memorial Church School.

"The people/taxpayers are the employers of their leaders in public service. Hence, the leaders should push interests of the people and make right decision and align with the people. As we work let us continuously engage Kenyans and get directions on how to proceed," he said.

At the event, the was accompanied by his wife Pastor Dorcas, Murang'a Deputy Governor Stephen Mburu, Gatanga MP Wakili Edward Muriu, Kangema MP Peter Kihungi, Nominated MP Sabina Chege and MCAs. 

The school was celebrating 50 years since its establishment in 1974 by white settlers. Currently, the school has 1670 learners.

Backing the Deputy President, the MPs faulted their colleagues whom they claimed were concentrating on negative politics instead of working for wananchi.

"I humbly request that we stop thinking about personalities and focus on issues facing Kenyans. Since economy is on the recovery path let us focus on the real issues. I want to remind MPs that we have no time for sideshows and the impeachment talk. We need to sit in parliament to discuss bills that will improve the welfare of the people," said MP Sabina Chege.

MP Edward Muriu asked leaders to unite and work towards development of the nation.

"Great men are made during crisis. We have crisis of economy, debts and unemployment. As leaders, we know the country will prosper when there is unity, peace and partnerships. We will overcome the current crisis and we go back to the track," said Mr Muriu.

He further praised the Government over its development programs in Murang'a county, citing the ongoing water connection program at Ndaka-ini dam.

"For 49 years since construction of Ndakaini dam, it has been serving Nairobi people with water and excluding the locals living near the dam. But since Kenya Kwanza administration came to power in 2022, Gatanga people will access the water. The contractor is on site and the project will be commissioned soon by the President and the Deputy President," he said.
